Visa on arrival soon to Lankan businessmen: Iranian Investors keen on joint ventures by Lionel Yodhasinghe The Government of Iran is working out a scheme to issue visa on arrival to prospective Sri Lankan businessmen in a bid to interact with their Iranian counterparts and set up join business ventures to strengthen the economic relations between the two countries, said Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister and Ministry Spokesman Dr. Hamid Reza Assefi. He told journalists that Iran is specialised in construction; agriculture and health sectors and private sector businessmen in Iran is keen in investing in Sri Lanka on such sectors to benefit both countries. Dr. Assefi said that the President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga's proposed visit to Iran, which is historic as she is the first President to visit Iran, would be a turning point in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
He said that Iran would consider how it could help Lanka to ease the burden on increasing fuel prices if the government makes a request in that regard during the discussions between the two leaders. He also said that Iran hails the political stand taken by Sri Lanka in Iran's nuclear issue but it has no vested interest in Sri Lanka other than building relationship. He said the Government would soon introduce seven day visa on arrival for transit passengers opening more chances for people to visit Iran and Sri Lankans too can enjoy this facility until it work out a permanent system for Sri Lankans to visit Iran, meet people to interact with them and build better trade, economic and cultural relations in the future. |
