ARFU - full member of IRB Executive Council The International Rugby Board yesterday admitted the Asian Rugby Football Union to Full Member status of the IRB Executive Council along with the Confederation of African Rugby and the Federation of Oceanic Rugby Unions. The IRB Executive Council now comprises eight Foundation Member Unions with two Votes each together with Argentina, Italy, Canada and Japan with one Vote each as well the Federation International de Rugby Amateur together with the three newly joined regional associations with one Vote each. The International Rugby Board also admitted to Associate Membership of the International Rugby Board seven new IRB Members from the Asian region, namely Cambodia, Kyrgizstan, Laos, Mongolia, Pakistan, the Philippines and Uzbekistan bringing to 113 the total number of Unions in Membership of the International Rugby Board. The grant to Cambodia, Kyrgizstan, Laos, Mongolia and Uzbekistan is conditional upon their being admitted to Full Membership of the Asian Rugby Football Union at the next ARFU Council Meeting. Associate Members will not be entitled to direct IRB Trust funding at this stage nor be able to take part in RWC 2007 Qualifying. Their status as Associate Members will be reviewed after three Years, when dependent on progress they will either become Full IRB Members remain as Associate Members or lose Associate Member status. |
