Trials on to pick women's cricket team for WC The trial matches for the selection of a 16-strong national women's team for the World Cup 2005 in South Africa have already begun amidst rain interruptions. The first match was played last week and four more matches on November 22 and 30 as well as on December 6 and 13 at Moratuwa International Ground and Moors SC Grounds are scheduled. The final team will be picked from the national pool of 28 players. Most of the girls are new except for three or four who have already represented Sri Lanka in the 2000 World Cup in New Zealand. The team will arrive in Johannesburg on March 14 and will meet India in the World Cup opener. Coached by Nihal Kodituwakku, the girls are at practice at the Indoor Nets by courtesy of The Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation who also sponsored the nets for the Tri Nation Series as well as the Australian Tour this year. Singer Sri Lanka who is the national sponsor for women's Cricket is sponsoring the World Cup 2005. The panel of Selectors consist of A.R.M. Aroos - Chairman G.S.M.A. Razik, Stanly de Alwis and S.H. Dawoodbhoy. The pool K.M.
