News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Ceremonies in Matara to mark decade of presidency A series of ceremonies will be held in Matara from December 7 to 12 under the banner Nilwala Harasara Upahara, (Nilwala felicitation) with the "Prosperous Future based on the Renaissance of a decade of Presidency"as the theme of the program (Punarudhaye dasavasarin isurubara heta dinak ) to mark the decade of the presidency of Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. Matara district MP, Civil Aviation and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera has decided to embrace all the electorates of the Matara district in celebrating the completion of 10 years in office by President Kumaratunga. The ceremony will include items covering religious, cultural, sports fields. "Ganga Rohana Poojawa" in the Nilwala Nadiya will be the primary event of the celebrations. There will be "Bodhi Poojas" in the temples and Christian, Hindu and Islam religious ceremonies within the Matara district to mark the occasion. There will be a bicycle race, marathon, swimming meets and elle and cricket matches as part of the cultural ceremony. "Lanka Savariya" and "Nilwala Savariya " organised by the Dinamina daily of Lake House will take place on December 12.Ten senior citizens of Matara who have contributed their share for the development of the country will be felicitated at the "Nilwala Harasara" grounds. |
