We should acquire knowledge by reading Kuliyapitiya Group Correspondent The most valuable asset in future will be knowledge. If we are armed with the knowledge we can win the world, since it is not the money but the knowledge will be the investment factor before long. One could acquire knowledge by way of reading. October was declared the "National Reading Month" to encourage the reading habit, National Libraries and Documentations Services Board Chairman W. A. Abeysinghe said. He was addressing the meeting that followed the distribution of prizes for the winners of the literary contest organised by the Readers Club of Kuliyapitiya Public Library in concurrence with the National Reading Month. Abeysinghe added that declaration of the National Reading Month was only the beginning. The National Reading Year would follow. Not only the children but also the elders should read. They should give up TV viewing habit in the evening and take to reading whatever books they could get. That will set an example for the younger generation. The books would enrich the knowledge, reading for the examinations is insufficient. A library is an open door for the world. Noble intellectuals are found in them. |
