Clergy Organisation welcomes President's efforts on ethnic crisis The All Island Clergy Organization in a message of felicitation to President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday to mark her 10th year in office wished her health and courage to find a true solution to the ethnic crisis, the most serious problem in the country and receive the honour and respect of the masses. 'It was after 1993 when you were elected as the Chief Minister of the Western Provincial Council that people began to enjoy the fruits of their true aspirations. With your subsequent victories in 1994, first to become the Prime Minister and then to become the Executive President by a recorded majority, the dark era ended to direct the people in the democratic process, making humanitarianism meaningful. This is a fact known to each and everybody in this country, the message' said. 'It further said that from the time she came to power, there were many obstacles to find a solution to the ethnic crisis and that the people cannot forget her life risking dedication to achieve that end, though the UNP has sadly forgotten it. Their sole ambition is to come into power, it said. 'It is an acknowledged fact that the ghostly Constitution introduced by J.R.Jayawardene in 1978 is the cause of all these ills. The people believe that only your leadership can unite all parties to find a true solution to the ethnic crisis which is the most serious problem in the country today. The All Island Clergy Organization wish you health and courage to achieve this end and earn the respect and honour of the masses, the message stated. |
