Previous regime ignored the value of graduates

Deraniyagala Roving Corr.

Among Pre School students, only about 3% gain admission to university. It is from this lot that the government selects intellectuals, who become assets to the nation and the people. Therefore, appointment of graduates to government institutions would be an asset to a developing country like Sri Lanka. But it is regretted to note that the previous regime ignored their value by not offering jobs to them.

Deputy Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya made these observation addressing graduates who were selected to undergo training, prior to post them in permanent jobs in Government Service at the Kegalle Balika Vidyalaya, where the training took place.

The Deputy Minister further said, that the economic development in other countries is bleak. Many countries, he said, face economic problems due to existing problems and as a result they are unable to concentrate on development works, and have stopped proceeding on such projects. At a juncture like this, it was praiseworthy that the UPFA government fulfilled an election pledge by offering jobs to graduates.

Last government ignored the graduates and failed to consider their grievances. Most of the graduates were confined to their homes in frustration. But the UPFA government came forward to relieve them. They are grateful to the Government for this gesture despite various anti propaganda of the UNP, against the State. In offering jobs to graduates, the government is not biased. It had not discriminated on community, religion or other factors. On completion of their training these graduates will be offered permanent jobs in the Government Sector. These appointments will overcome the dearth of officials in Education and Health Sectors, he concluded.

Chief Minister Sabaragamuwa PC Maheepala Herath said there is a shortage for educated personnel in various government institutions in particular in Education and Health Sectors. Last Government was even unable to appoint employees to the Health Sector.

Although the UPFA government faced financial constraints, it had honoured several election pledges, the remaining would be resolved in due course. But the people, should be cautious about the false propaganda of the UNP and its allies, whose aim is to come back to power by misleading the masses.

He assured that Sri Lanka will overcome all its problems very soon and usher in a prosperous future.
