MSD men wanted for robbery remanded till November 19 by Sarath Malalasekera The Cinnamon Gardens Police arrested five most wanted men three of them attached to the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) and produced them before the Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Ms. Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena. On an application by the Cinnamon Gardens Police, the Judge remanded the five suspects till November 19 pending an identification parade. Investigations directed by Colombo DIG Sirisena Herath revealed that the suspects had entered several premises of businessmen on the pretext of selling valuable artefacts for a low price. Investigations also revealed that the MSD men had used their official weapons to threaten the businessmen and rob cash. The Cinnamon Gardens Police said that the suspects are said to be involved in a number of major robberies in the country including in Peradeniya, Wellawatte and Pugoda police areas. The Judge directed the Cinnamon Gardens Police to produce the suspects before the Pugoda Magistrate on November 18 and remanded them till November 19. Counsel for the suspects Sanjey Gamage objected to the suspects being produced before an identification parade as they had been shown over the national TV. The Judge refused the application for bail and remanded the suspects till November 19. |
