New look Greatwall

Greatwall Restaurant, Galle Road, Colombo 3 has just completed its major refurbishment which took almost two months. The total cost of the renovation was nearly Rs. 6 million, which includes Architectural design, brand new furniture, modern ceiling, new interior with two specially designed private dining rooms for family get together or office parties.

According to the Restaurant Manager Adrian Gomez, the decision for the refurbishment is due to the demand for dining out and also considering the number of Chinese Tour Groups that patronize the restaurant on a regular basis.

Greatwall Restaurant has been listed in many of the Travel Guides overseas as one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants in Sri Lanka.

Asia-Pacific computer sales up nearly 10 percent in September quarter

Computer sales in the Asia-Pacific region outside Japan increased almost 10 percent to 8.5 million units in the September quarter, boosted by exceptionally strong orders in India, an industry report said.

Sales also received a boost from healthy demand for mobile computers, mainly laptops, which grew 26.1 percent from a year ago, US technology research house Gartner Inc. said in a recent report.

Demand for desk-based computers were up 6.5 percent, said the report which gave no absolute numbers.

"All markets in the region performed positively, especially India, which grew 35 percent, compared to a year ago," said Lillian Tay, regional principal analyst for hardware and systems. Lenovo, China's largest computer maker, sold the most computers in the region for the September quarter with 1.017 million units shipped, giving it an 11.9 percent market share in the Asia-Pacific, Gartner said.

Hewlett-Packard of the US was second with 10.1 percent market share, having sold 861,000 computers.

In third place was IBM which sold 672,000 computers, which is the equivalent of 7.9 percent share of regional sales recorded in the September quarter.

China-Japan energy disputes to bubble on the sidelines of APEC

China and Japan's voracious appetite for oil is set to become a major topic at the APEC summit in Chile, as high prices threaten the world economic outlook and the two neighbors battle over global reserves.

Chinese President Hu Jintao will propose an energy initiative a initiative "to improve cooperation in terms of energy resources, developing new energy and energy poverty alleviation," Shen told reporters.

"The aim is to create an energy environment that will benefit all parties to deal with the challenges in the fluctuations of the energy market and the rise in the oil prices and achieve sustainable development," he said.

China's breakneck economic growth, expected to come in at 9.25 percent this year, has been accompanied by a skyrocketing demand for energy.

The world's most populous nation in 2003 overtook Japan as the world's second largest oil importer after the United States.

In bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit, Japanese and Chinese participation in huge Russian energy projects was also likely to be debated, diplomats said.
