US funds police anti-narcotics training program

Approximately 150 members of the Sri Lankan Police graduated yesterday from a round of training courses funded by the US government.

The training program begin in March 2004 with basic criminal investigative and narcotics interdiction techniques courses for the Sri Lanka Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB), the Embassy of the United States of America said in a release.

In conjunction with the PNB, this latest round of training reached out to approximately 150 police officers and officials from police districts and bureaus throughout Sri Lanka to share management techniques through a "police Supervisors Course," a 'Mid-Level Management Course' and a train-the-trainer 'Instructor Development Workshop'.

The program is designed to provide approximately US$ 500,000 in training to Sri Lankan police personnel.
