Message to mark 10 years in office:

Country free from corruption - President

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga said that her Government was able to free the country from corruption and state sponsored terrorism and she considers that as a major achievement during her past 10 year tenure. In a special message to mark 10 years in office via state television yesterday, President Kumaratunga said her government steered the country towards development, free from corruption and malpractice cleansing the whole political system from top to bottom.

President most senior in democratic world

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has joined an elite circle of senior world leaders with the completion of 10 years in office. Although there are several leaders who have ruled their respective countries for several decades, only a few, including President Kumaratunga, have been democratically elected.
