Rs. 3 million electricity project in Batugampola

Minister of Buddha Sasana, Public Security, Law and Order and Deputy Minister of Defence Ratnasiri Wickremanayake recently opened the co-ordinated electricity supply scheme for Janaudana village and St. Peter's Colony at Batugampola in the Horana electorate recently.

The project costing Rs. 3 million was funded by the Asian Development Bank and will supply electricity supplies to 150 households.

Deputy Minister of Power and Energy Kumar Welgama, Chairman of Land Reform Commission Vidura Wickremanayake and Chief SLFP Organiser for Horana were present.

Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake speaking on the occasion said the scheme was inaugurated when Anurudda Ratwatte was the Minister of Power who initiated the ADB assistance for the Project. However the Project remained dormant under the previous government.

The present UPFA came to office and they were able to complete the project, he said. Wickremanayake said that the Opposition is trying to rouse the people due to the rise in the cost of living caused by the rise in fuel prices worldwide. He said that the solution to offset these effect is for us to increase production locally and be self sufficient.

He said that it is only the Government and private sector employees they should look after but also millions of village folk who are not engaged in permanent jobs who do not have unions or organisations to speak on their behalf.

He said that it is only through launching long term development programs and increasing production that relief to the millions who are not permanently employed could be provided. The present Government which came to office only six months back has launched a series of such programs to develop local production and till the fruition of these programs it is inevitable that certain hardship has to be faced.

While the government took steps to at least lessen the burdens. The Government will always take the people into their confidence and go with them in this development process he said.
