Visually handicapped cricketers to the fore Debutants Ranaviru Sevana and the reigning joint champions School for the Blind, Tangalle, scored easy victories in the opening games of the National tournament for Visually Handicapped Cricketers conducted by the National Cricket Association of the Blind recently. At Tangalle, the schoolboys beat new entrants Ceylon Electrical Plastic Industries, Piliyandala by 68 runs in their forty-over match. School for the Blind, Tangalle scored 297 in 27 overs with Selvanayagam 24, K.M. Cyril 56 and top scorer Sulochana 71, skipper Kalyanakumara captured 4 for 42 and Pradeepkumar 2 for 30. CEPI were all out for 229 runs in 28 overs. Kalayanakumara completed a fine double with 70 including 11 boundaries and a six. Manjula contributed 24. At the MCA Grounds: Ranaviru thrashed School for the Blind, Ratmalana by a massive 158 runs. Ranaviru 244 - Cpl. Nishantha 44, Sgt. Nishantha 30, Pvt. Abeyratne 27 runs excelled with the bat. Skipper Saman Jayantha 3 for 25 bowled best for Ratmalana). Ratmalana were bundled out for 78 runs with skipper Cpl. Jayaratne bagging 4 wickets for 32 runs. These matches are being treated as trials to pick the Sri Lanka team to participate in the forthcoming Asia Cup in Sharjah. |
