by Anjana Gamage The World Travel Mart (WTM), the second largest travel trade show in the world will open today (8) in London with Sri Lanka representing the largest contingent at the event. Malraj Kiriella, Marketing Director of Sri Lanka Tourist Board (SLTB), told the " Daily News". According to sources, 57 leading local travel firms and hoteliers will participate at the WTM under the regional theme of " Culture and the Beach" this year. The show will go on till November 11. The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Industry and Investment Promotions Arjuna Ranatunga, Secretary to the Tourism Ministry Dr. P. Ramanujam and the Chairman of SLTB Udaya Nanayakkara will lead the Sri Lankan contingent. A Sri Lankan food festival will also be held during the WTM at the Crance Hollborn Hotel with the participation of local chefs including internationally renowned chef T. Publis. The food festival will be followed by the Best Tour Operators Awards Ceremony. Apart from the travel and hotel trade stalls there will be a special gem stall as well at the WTM. The organisers have also included a unique cultural performance by a local cultural troupe to add more glamorous to the event. The WTM is the international travel industry's premier business forum and also considered as the second largest travel trade show in the world after the ITB in Berlin. Over 5000 leading companies and 44,000 industry professionals from over 190 countries will participate at this year's WTM. |
