President Kumaratunga participates in "Hindustan Times Leadership Initiative" Seminar in New Delhi

During her visit to India President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga participated in a two day high level seminar titled "Hindustan Times Leadership Initiative". She delivered a keynote speech titled," "Unity and Diversity - Keeping South Asia Together".

Among other keynote speakers were Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India who inaugurated the seminar, Madam Sonia Gandhi, Leader of the Congress Party who spoke on "Democracy and Progress", John Major, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on "The Changing World" and Dr. Henry Kissinger, former US Secretary of State on "India's Role in the Changing World".

Among the distinguished personalities who participated in other segments of the seminar were Arun Shourie, BJP Leader and former Union Minister, Arun Jaitley, BJP Leader and former Union Minister, Suresh Prabhu, Shivsena Leader and former Union Minister, all of whom participated in the panel session "India in the 21st Century - The NDA vision".

The panel speakers on "India and Pakistan - Partnership for Peace and Prosperity" were Imran Khan, Chairman, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Dr. Farooq Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. P. Chidambaram, Finance Minister of India spoke on "Vision India - The Next Economic Superpower".

Dr. Hans Blix, former UN Chief Weapons Inspector spoke on "Preventing Nuclear Weapons From Falling Into the Hands of Rogue States and Terrorists". The Foreign Minister of Thailand and the Minister of external Afairs of India spoke on "Regional Cooperation for Growth and Prosperity" and a group of leading Indian industrialists discussed the question of "Competing in the Global Economy". The audience comprised a large group of selected invitees from business, academia, government, the media and the diplomatic corps, President Kumaratunga's speech was widely quoted in the Indian press, states a Foreign Ministry press release.
