Subsidy to Indian villages on biogas plants With the view to providing energy security to villages through renewable sources, the Indian Government has raised the subsidy on biogas plants and is considering modifications in other schemes to provide more central assistance. "Central subsidy for family type biogas plants has been raised. The schemes of renewable power projects are proposed to be modified to provide central subsidy instead of interest subsidy," Minister of Non-Conventional Energy Sources Vilas Muttemwar said. The subsidy on biogas plants has been raised to 50 per cent from the current 30 per cent. However, for certain categories the subsidy was already 90 per cent of the cost and has not been raised. The total outgo on subsidy on this account during the last fiscal was about Rs 40 crore and with the increase it is likely to touch about Rs 55-60 crore. However, the ministry was still working out the exact estimates, officials said. - PTI |
