Tour de Lanka cycle race to be revived

he time-honoured Tour de Lanka cycle race organised by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) will be revived after a lapse of ten years.

he race which was a popular event in the local sports calendar and one which caught the imagination of the sports loving public will be called the 'Dinamina Tour de Lanka' and run over six days from December 7-12.

he race will be conducted by the interim committee of the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka and run from Colombo to Matara covering a distance of approximately 1000 kilometres. It will be run in three categories - racing and standard for men and standard for women.

n inaugural meeting to revive the popular cycle race was held at the ANCL board room yesterday chaired by ANCL Director (Editorial) Karunarathna Paranawithana along with ANCL Director (Finance) Sonali Dissanayake and officials of the Cycling Federation interim committee and ANCL employees.
