Army-LTTE meeting scheduled for Saturday in Batticaloa by Ranil Wijayapala The Security Forces heads and the LTTE leaders in Batticaloa are scheduled to meet in Batticaloa on Saturday to discuss the security situation in the area, Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Spokesman Oskar Solnes told the Daily News yesterday. He said the Acting Head of the SLMM Hagrup Haukland will chair the meeting to discuss the security situation in Batticaloa where LTTE factional fighting continues. This is the third meeting to be held in Batticaloa after the LTTE agreeing to participate at meetings with the Security Forces in the area to discuss the security situation after withdrawing from these meetings accusing the Sri Lanka Army of harbouring the LTTE breakaway leader Karuna. Security Forces heads participated at this meeting urge the LTTE to get their military commanders in the area to participate at these meetings if they are to be more effective. According to sources in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka Army, Welikanda Batticaloa Division Commander Brigadier Vajira Wijegunawardena and 233 Brigade Commander Colonel Laksiri Amaratunga are expected to participate at this meeting. Batticaloa-Ampara LTTE Political Wing Chief E. Kausalyan will participate at the meeting. |
