by Rajmi Manatunga The Transport Ministry will computerise the state bus sector to expand its monitoring activities over cluster bus companies and depots islandwide. The new mechanism named 'Dash Board' will connect cluster companies and CTB depots using computer technology thus providing better monitoring facilities to transport authorities based in Colombo. "The CTB which had the monopoly of the state bus service is now carried out by cluster bus companies and depots. This has caused difficulties in monitoring. The new system aims to address this problem," Ministry sources told the Daily News. Under the new system, a database containing information regarding the functioning of CTB depots will be prepared. The database connected to the computer network of depots will be updated daily. "The 'Dash Board' is the outcome of this process and acts as an indicator of all these daily information," he said. According to the spokesman, the Transport Minister, Deputy Minister and CTB officials will have access to the 'Dash Board' which will enable them to address problems of each depot immediately. "The data base will indicate information ranging from the bus fleet in operation, the daily attendance of employees at depots to the state of fuel, battery and other requirements on a daily basis," he said. |
