The Indian Government through the High Commission of India, in Colombo has offered scholarships under the scheme of scholarship for nationals of Sri Lanka for studying in Indian universities during the forthcoming session of 2005-2006. The High Commission of India selects in consultation with the Sri Lankan Education Ministry, bright young Sri Lankans for pursuing various undergraduate courses in different universities under fully paid scholarship program. The Education Ministry has invited applications from eligible candidates and the last date for submission of duly filled up application form is November 12, 2004. All scholarships cover full tuition fee for entire duration of the course and students are also paid a monthly sustenance allowance of Indian Rupees 2,500 (US $ 55) per month at undergraduate level and 3,500 (US $ 78) for postgraduate courses. An annual grant for books, stationery at the rate Indian Rupees 3,000 (US $ 67) is provided to undergraduate students and 4,500 (US $ 100) to postgraduate scholars and 10,000 (US $ 222) for M.Phil/Ph.D students. Scholarships also cover monthly accommodation charges upto Indian rupees 2500 (US $ 55) per month. Besides, all ICCR scholars in India are provided full healthcare facilities, first class train fare and annual grant of Indian Rs. 2,000 for educational tours to various parts of the country, apart from several other auxiliary benefits.
