Breakthrough in peace process logjam: LTTE willing to discuss Government proposals, says Daya Master by Ranil Wijayapala The LTTE is willing to discuss the counter proposals prepared by the Government at the negotiation table once peace talks between the two parties resume, LTTE Media Coordinator Daya Master told the Daily News yesterday. He said the LTTE is ready to resume peace talks with the Government at any time and was willing to discuss the Government counter proposals at the negotiation table. However, Daya Master said the LTTE stand is that the negotiations should be commenced on the basis of the Interim Self Governing Authority (ISGA) proposals submitted by the LTTE a year ago. The LTTE recently declared that their ISGA proposals are negotiable. The LTTE delegation led by its political wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan during their current visit to Europe also reiterated this position to European leaders. Cabinet spokesman and Information and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera said on Thursday, the Government was ready with counter proposals to the LTTE's ISGA proposals. He added the proposals will be handed over to the LTTE once they are ready to accept it. Asked whether the LTTE was ready to accept the Government's counter proposals before commencing negotiations, Daya Master said he was not in a position to comment at present. "We will announce our position later on this issue," Daya Master added. Samaraweera expressed optimism that the LTTE would change their mind over the resumption of peace talks following the LTTE delegation's current visit to Europe. |
