Rabies death probe report to be submitted on Wednesday

by Edward Arambewala

The Lady Ridgeway Childrens Hospital rabies death probe report is to be submitted to the Director General of the Health and Nutrition Ministry on Wednesday next week.

Hospital Director Dr. Wimal Jayantha who recorded the statement of K. Gunaratne, the father of the 10 year old girl who was the victim in this case yesterday (Thursday) said that he firmly stood his ground denying that the chit for the follow up injections were not given to him, when the child was brought for treatment to the LRH by the attending doctors last month.

Dr. Wimal Jayantha told the Daily News now the point at dispute was the issue of this chit.

While the ward staff maintain that it was given, as they usually have been doing over past 15 years so in every case of a dog bite victim brought for treatment. The child's father keeps on denying it.

The director said that he has to record the statements of another doctor and a hospital staff member in this case which he will do by Tuesday next week and the report would be submitted to the Director General of the Health and Nutrition Ministry by Wednesday for any action they deem necessary in this case.
