Indoor World Cup : Lankans in two good wins Sri Lanka recorded two more victories over South Africa and New Zealand on the fourth day of the men's Indoor World Cup cricket tournament continued at the Austasia Sports Complex in Thalawathugoda yesterday. The Lankans came out with another superlative performance to beat South Africa by 20 runs with skipper Asela Pathirana playing a leading role. Pathirana returned superb bowling figures of four wickets for minus seven runs as South Africa managed to score only 75 runs while chasing Sri Lanka's total of 95 runs made from 16 overs. Earlier the Lankans batting first scored 95 runs with Thushendra Soysa hitting a top score of 24 runs. Chryshantha Peiris (3 for 4), Dilshan Vitharana (3 for 7) and R. Weerasinghe (2 for 8) also bowled well as Sri Lanka completed their third successive victory of the tournament. Sri Lanka followed up this with another crushing 34 run win over New Zealand in a league match. The Lankans batting first piled up an impressive 104 runs from their 16 overs with Tharindu Mendis (18), Chryshantha Peiris (19) and Asela Pathirana (15) providing useful contributions. In reply New Zealand were restricted to 70 runs from their 16 overs against some accurate bowling from Irosha de Silva (3 for minus 5), Sachindra Gonaduwa (3 for 7), Thushendra Soysa (3 for 7) and Chryshantha Peiris (3 for 15) sharing the wickets.
