Daily Mirror contradicted

The Daily Mirror of 9th October 2004 under the caption "Separate Ministry for Tourism reports that the subject of tourism which was handled by the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Promotion, Anura Bandaranaike has been removed by the President by an extraordinary gazette notification to form another Ministry which is factually incorrect and purposefully misleading. The Government has no intention of removing the tourism subject from Anura Bandaranaike.

The subject of Tourism was separated from the original Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Investment Promotion with due consideration to the fact that "tourism" has been a subject which demands top national importance for the country's Socio Economic Development and the work involved both local and international demands a separate Secretary.

However both the Ministries namely the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Industry and Investment Promotion remain under the charge of Anura Bandaranaike. There are two Secretaries in charge of the two Ministries respectively under the leadership of Anura Bandaranaike.
