He was addressing a meeting held at Hanwella Divisional Secretariat to review the progress of development programs, launched in the area under the Western Provincial Council's 2004 decentralised budget recently. He said despite the financial crisis due to high cost of fuel the UPFA Government had allocated funds for development without any curtailment. Therefore it is our duty to make the maximum use of funds in order to fulfil the aspirations of the people, he said. Gunawardena referring to the incomplete electricity supply projects said the Power and Energy Ministry and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had no reason to keep the people in the dark, of an electorate in the Colombo District, when the money for the projects had already been paid. He emphasised that all outstanding projects should be completed by December 31. He also said if there were any problems encountered by officials as a result of circular instructions, issued from time to time, he would take up the matter with the Government and take necessary steps to remove the obstacles. |
