Lawyers to benefit by Gunasekera's endeavour - CJ

The long history of Colombo Law Library has been characterised in the past few decades by the genial and ever useful presence of M. Gunasekera.

He has helped the institution to function efficiently and assisted us in the efforts that are being made to improve the content and usefulness of the Colombo Law Library, said Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, PC in a message at the launching ceremony of the book title "An Index of Reported Cases, -2000 to 2002 by M. Gunasekera former employee of the Colombo Law Library.

On his retirement, Gunasekera has compiled a useful index of the reported cases from 2000 to 2002, an index of enactments and a collection of Gazette Notifications including the territorial boundaries of respective courts. The Lawyers would be benefitted by Gunasekera's useful endeavour, the Chief Justice added.

The Court of Appeal Judge, Justice L. K. Wimalachandra in a message stated that Gunasekera has gathered valuable experience of legal literature which has been of great assistance to lawyers who used the library for the last three decades.

The Attorney General K. C. Kamalasabeyson PC in a message stated, Gunasekera has been a dedicated employee of the Colombo Law Library for more than four decades.

He was always available to assist the lawyers who used the library for their reference work and was able to locate with ease the books required by them.

The members of the Colombo Law Library will always value the assistance he gave them during the period when it was expanded and refurbished.

The President, Bar Association of Sri Lanka Ikram Mohamed, PC in his message said that the compilation titled "Index of Reported Cases 2000-2002 including Certain Important information" by Gunasekera is an admirable effort on his part.

Gunasekera served at the Colombo Law Library for well over a period of 40 years. His practical experience in the Colombo Law Library has been of great value not only to lawyers, both senior and junior, but also to judges, the BASL President added.

Colombo Law Society President Palitha Kumarasinghe in a message said that "during my tenure as a member of Colombo Law Library Committee, Gunasekera helped the Committee in its efforts to improve the facilities and the income of the Library."

Colombo Law Library Secretary Kuvera de Zoysa said "I have no hesitation in saying that this collection would be a useful guide to Honourable Judges of all courts, practitioners, Law students and anyone who is interested in the subject of law."
