by Sarath Malalasekera Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Ms. Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena yesterday put off for October 28, the sentence on Gamini Ranawake of Vijerama Mawatha, Colombo who pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against him for using The Buddha's pictures on women's clothing through the Internet. The Judge directed the CID to obtain a probation report about the suspect and produce it in Court on the next date, October 28. Earlier on an application by Counsel Sampath Tennakoon, the Judge released the suspect on cash bail in a sum of Rs. 2,500 and a bond of Rs. 50,000 with a surety. The Judge also earlier directed officials of the Criminal Investigation Department to obtain a report from the Judicial Medical Officer in connection with the medical condition of the suspect Gamini Ranawake. The Judge allowed an application by Attorney at Law Amal Randeniya who appeared with Prasantha Lal de Alwis to obtain a copy of the proceedings of the case. The CID earlier told Court that they searched the residence of the suspect on a court order and found that the Internet www geocities.com had used to send The Buddha's pictures through the Internet. The suspect who is on bail yesterday directed to appear in Court on the next date, October 28. |
