Sri Lanka's per capita income expected to rise to US $ 1,000

Sri Lanka's per capita income is expected to rise to US dollars 1,000 by the end of this year, Finance Ministry Secretary, Dr. P. B. Jayasundera said. He said Sri Lanka should aim at a high economic growth to achieve this target. Dr. Jayasundera told Lankapuvath that the revenue from taxes is an essential factor to achieve economic growth in a country.

He stressed the importance of the Inland Revenue Department towards this end. Action has been taken to improve Inland Revenue Department activities in four sections. These include the improvement of the Department's administrative structure, the introduction of the services network based on new technology, training of department officials, human resources development and the introduction of a new tax policy.
