The Board of the National Child Protection Authority (ACPA) has appointed a special committee to recommend suitable amendments to the National Child Protection Authority Act No. 50 of 1998. The NCPA in a press release stated Palitha Fernando (Deputy Solicitor General) and Lalani S. Perera (Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Justice) have been appointed as the Co-Chairpersons and Piyasena Ranasignhe (Director General of Bribery Commission), Mr. Nimal Punchihewa (Director of Human Rights Commission), Preethika Sakalasooriya (Attorney-at-Law) A. M. A. Wasantha Kumara (Attorney-at-Law), Mr. J. Thangavelu (Deputy Inspector General/Legal), Gamini Dissanayake (Senior Superintendent of Police/Director-Legal) and Ms. Kumudu Perera (Attorney-at-Law) have been appointed as the other members of the committee which is under the patronage of Prof. Harendra De Silva, Chairman of the National Child Protection Authority. The objectives of the committee will be; 01. To recommend more effective administrative mechanism to the NCPA. 02. To make recommendations to strengthen the mandate and capacity for investigation and monitoring regarding Child Abuse Cases conducted by the NCPA. 03. To make recommendations to strengthen the coordinating capacity of the NCPA. Written submissions pertaining to the objectives of the Committee from the general public including interested individuals and institutions would be accepted. Written submissions should reach the National Child Protection authority, No. 330. Thalawathugoda Road, Sri Jayawardenepura on or before November 10, 2004. The committee will invite selected individuals and institutions who tendered their written submissions, to make their further oral representation before the committee if necessary. |
