Four new Deputy Ministers sworn in

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday appointed four new Deputy Ministers under article 46 (1) of the Constitution.

They are S. M. Chandrasena, Deputy Minister of Women's Empowerment and Social Welfare; Mervyn Silva, Deputy Minister of Labour Relations and Foreign Employment; D.M. Dassanayake, Deputy Minister of Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction and H.A. Bhaila, Deputy Minister of Small and Medium Enterprise Development.

Daily News art contest winners prize day today

The prize giving and awarding of certificates to winners of the essay and art competitions organised by the Daily News to mark Universal Children's Day will be held today commencing 10 a.m.at the Lionel Wendt Gallery, Colombo 7.

The first three winners of all five categories of the two competitions will receive cash prizes totalling Rs. 100,000 and certificates. Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (Lake House) Chairman Janadasa Peiris will be the chief guest.

The exhibition of the selected entries of the art exhibition will also be on today. Daily News has informed all winners of both events and all whose drawings have been selected for the exhibition to be present.
