The Sisu Udana Vishistayo awards scheme launched by the People's Bank last month has generated much interest islandwide. The 25 districts around the country have indicated that the application forms have been moving fast and the interest shown by schools, the principles and the children have been very satisfactory. The People's Bank encourages all school children islandwide to take part in this awards scheme as the Bank will help, nurture and encourage these winners in the future. The People's Bank launched the Sisu Udana Vishistayo awards scheme in order to recognise the best of the outstanding achievers at school level in several cateories - sports, drama, dance and singing, art, environment and conservation, computer software and oratory. Initially, five winners will be selected from each district. They will be given cash prizes of Rs. 10,000 each. Thereafter, ten national privileged schools that has produced a winner will be given Rs. 50,000 to develop the library, science laboratory or sports facility. These winners will be felicitated at a gala awards ceremony to be held at the end of the year. The objectives of the Sisu Udana Vishitayo are to encourage students to aspire to greater heights through recognition, create future leaders, and foster the well-rounded personality and the support of underprivileged schools. |
