by Chamikara Weerasinghe Provincial Council and Local Government Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon had instructed provincial authorities and local authorities across the country, to step up action to provide compensation for those who had undergone political victimisation in institutions which come under his Ministry's purview. A Ministry spokesman said, Minister Tennakoon had instructed Governors, Chief Ministers and Provincial Commissioners, to compensate the victims without delay in keeping with the report of the Committee appointed to investigate cases of political victimisation in the Provincial Council and Local Government Ministry and allied institutions from December 2001 to April 2004. The Committee had submitted the report to Minister Tennakoon last week. The Committee had studied and made recommendations for the redress of more than 30 political victimisation cases. The most of these victims had been either deprived of their promotions or abruptly transferred by their superiors, Ministry sources said. The Committee to Investigate Political Victimization had also been instructed by the Minister to see that their recommendations be carried out by the relevant provincial and local authorities. |
