by Manjula Fernando The Objection Boards of National schools will commence inquiries into all complaints relating to Grade one school admissions for 2005 on October 15. The Objection Boards appointed by the Education Ministry will be headed by principals outside their own schools to maintain impartiality, an Education Ministry spokesman said yesterday. According to the spokesperson, the Objection Boards of the following popular schools will be appointed by the Education Ministry in view of the large number of complaints received due to intense competition by parents for admission. They are Visakha Vidyalaya, Royal College, D.S. Senanayake Vidyalaya, Ananda Vidyalaya and Sirimavo Bandaranaike Balika Vidyalaya in Colombo; and Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda; Maliyadeva Boys School, Kurunegala; Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya, Kiribathgoda; Sujatha Balika Vidyalaya, Matara; Rahula Vidyalaya, Matara; Dharmaraja Vidyalaya, Kandy; Southlands Vidyalaya, Galle; Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala; Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy; Dharmashoka Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda, and Richmond's College, Galle. "School principals are required to table the list of complaints received for 2005 and make available the documents for the objection boards to conduct a full inquiry into the cases," she said. "Instructions have been issued to other schools to appoint their objection boards in a similar manner, appointing the principal of the nearest school to head the board and the circular has already been dispatched," she added. The final list of selected students for Grade One admission will be announced by schools on November 15. |
