by Mahinda Kulatunga UPFA Western Provincial Council member Namal Gunawardena was found shot dead inside his vehicle at Dharmaraja Mawatha in Kollupitiya last night. According to Kollupitiya police the victim had nine pistol shot wounds on his body. The weapon used was a .38 revolver. The body was found in the front seat of the vehicle, a cab bearing registration No. 59-9779. According to information received by police the PC member had come to Dharmaraja Mawatha to meet an Indian national in connection with a business matter.The incident had occurred at around 8 pm. Gunawardena was elected a Western Provincial Council member from the Gamapaha District at the April 22 PC election. Police are yet to ascertain the motive for the killing. The body was removed to the Kalubowila Hospital last night. |
