'Connect Sri Lanka' to attract more foreign business 'Connect Sri Lanka' is based on the premise that negative perceptions are best changed via personal telephone conversations as opposed to e-mails and faxes which are impersonal. It urges everyone dealing with foreign organisations to call their foreign counterparts and convince them to do more business with Sri Lanka. The objective is to enhance the foreign activities of local organisations, while boosting the Sri Lankan economy through increased foreign trade, investment and tourism, a press release by Lanka Bell said. At the official launch ceremony of 'Connect Sri Lanka' Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Promotion Anura Bandaranaike said, "Sri Lanka's economic development requires a joint effort between the Government and the private sector. It is very encouraging to see a private sector company taking the initiative to sponsor a campaign of this magnitude that is of great national importance at this point in time". Deputy Managing Director of Lanka Bell Suren Goonewardene said, "Many foreigners who haven't visited Sri Lanka don't know that Sri Lanka offers unsurpassed opportunities in industry, investment and tourism. Personal telephone calls from their counterparts here in Sri Lanka can go a long way towards changing negative perceptions that may be hindering their willingness to do more business with Sri Lanka. We wanted every Sri Lankan with foreign contacts to realise that they can act as personal ambassadors and promote their own activities while helping national economic growth at the same time". General Manager Sales and Marketing at Lanka Bell Mansoor Rishad said, "We are subsidising this campaign by providing special 'Connect Sri Lanka' IDD phones to large users in government ministries, public and private sectors. They pay no connection charges and enjoy discounted rates customised especially for the countries they deal with most." |
