Drop in price indices

Price indices moved down yesterday with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) moving down by 3.7 points to close at 1445.4 points while the MILANKA Price Index (MPI) depreciating by 10.5 points closed at 2130.8 points.

A total turnover of Rs. 111.9 million was recorded during the day with a share volume of 5.5 million shares being traded.

Foreign investors continued to be net sellers in the market with purchases of Rs. 7.1 million and sales of Rs. 24.9 million. A total of 2521 trades were executed.

The Banks Finance and Insurance and Hotels and Travels sectors accounted for 47% of the total turnover of the day.

Investment Trust, Oil Palm, Banks Finance and Insurance, Constructions and Engineering and Services sectors recorded growth.

The top gainers included LB Finance, Alufab, Kelsey Development, Cargo Boat and Abans whilst Marawila Resorts, Equity Two, Lankem Development, Mahaweli Reach Hotel and Colonial Motors were among the top losers. Significant quantities of Marawila Resorts, Nawaloka Hospitals, East West, Ceylinco Securities and LB Finance were traded.
