AAA likely to lose its headquarters

The Amateur Athletic Association of Sri Lanka is likely to lose its headquarters as the Divisional Secretary of Thimbirigasyaya has asked them to vacate from the premises by the end of this month.

President of the AASL Sunil Jayaweera said yesterday that the divisional secretary has asked to hand over the AASL headquarters premises to the Ministry of Samurdhi.

Jayaweera said they have nowhere else to go and the move could be a big blow for Sri Lanka athletics with just months away from next year's South Asian Games in Colombo.

The AASL headquarters was built on a prime crown land by former AASL President Sunil Gunawardena with the support of then Minister of Samurdhi, Youth Affairs and Sports S.B. Dissanayake. AASL officials said the headquarters of local track and field has been built using Sports Ministry funds and it is unreasonable for Samurdhi Ministry to make a claim. D.W.
