Security Service providers convention

Due to the increasing vulnerability and the threats and onslaughts being perpetrated on that vital social economic lifeline of society, the Corporate Sector, also in other areas of civil society, it has become imperative to provide professional security services to protect and ensure their ability to perform successfully and profitability. This led to the idea of forming a truly strong and professional association.

A press release states, SLASSPA envisions the necessity to elevate and develop the quality of its personnel and the service it renders, to the highest possible professional standards, thus bringing promissery improvements to its clientele.

The SLASSPA is cognisant of the fact that three hundred and seventy one companies offering Civil Security Services in Sri Lanka, comprises comprehensive man power.

Security companies are engaged in full time duties to safeguard and protect their facilities with their experience and expertise, to the highest standards of safety.

It clearly understands and accepts that to ensure these standards on ongoing training in security skills is essential and that the best and most successful modern methodologies and strategies must be adopted. Many clients request security companies for armed guards due to the rising crime in Sri Lanka.

Ongoing training, learning and teaching programs have to be constantly devised and revised, intelligently presented and carefully inculcated by all civil security companies in well conducted training courses. SLASSPA plans to run a training academy for this purpose shortly.

The SLASSPA is aware that civil society is more criminalised than in the past and that criminals are capable of using sophisticated weaponry and high tech gadgetry in their attacks on the corporate sector, banks, private institutions, residential bungalows many of which need to be guarded and protected by civil security personnel.

As such it is important that ex-security personnel be used as armed guards and brought up to date in high tech systems and that these b provided to them to counter encroachments by gangs and thieves on their clients' facilities.

The Sri Lanka Security Service Providers Association accepts that high standards of performance by its personnel depends also on their high standards of efficiency, integrity, honesty, dedication to duty and deep commitment to their tasks.

These qualities have to first be practiced and promoted by the leaders (officers) in the security providers association and companies countrywide who need to regularly and carefully check and monitor the performance of their subordinates at ground level.

These points were well taken and highly placed at the discussion and agenda at the SLASSPA inaugural convention held at the BMICH. The welcome address was delivered by the SLASSPA President Major Nissanka Senadhipathi which was on the theme "Industrial and Commercial Security Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow". Harindran who is a senior stalwart of the security trade in Sri Lanka, who welcomed the idea of such a dynamic association and gave all his encouragement for its success in keeping with the changing times and requirements of professional security services, which should create a better impact on clients and on the society.
