by Sarath Malalasekera The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday uncovered a massive forged Vehicle Revenue Licence racket following the arrest of eight persons including seven minor employees attached to the Divisional Secretariat of Hendala, Wattala and Ja-Ela. A senior CID officer said yesterday they are looking for a senior employee also attached to a Divisional Secretariat allegedly involved in the racket. The CID also questioned a woman employee of a Divisional Secretariat in connection with the racket. The CID took into custody 25 forged rubber stamps with the signatures of Additional Registrars and Divisional Secretariats of Colombo, Kandy, Kinnya, Thimbirigasyaya, Narammala, Akurana, Jaffna, Dehiwela and Ratmalana. Investigators also took into custody 125 forged birth certificates from the suspects' possession. After recording the suspects' statements they will be produced before the Colombo Magistrate, the CID said. CID Director Senior SP Sisira Mendis is directing investigations conducted by ASP Mevan Silva with Sub Inspectors Rodrigo and Nissanka and Constable Jayasiri. |
