CDL completes first offshore Drill Rig repairs

Colombo Dockyard Limited (CDL) operating in Joint collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd. Japan has successfully completed the first Offshore Drill Rig repairs to ABAN II owned by the ABAN LOYD CHILES OFFSHORE LTD,India.

The main scope of repairs carried out during this call rectified the damages sustained to her mat (the platform which is submerged) during operations. To carry out the damage repairs to the Mat, in the submerged condition, 4 coffer-dams were fabricated in the work shop.

The coffer-dams isolated the damaged work areas and provided access to the workers to repair the damage, while the MAT is still submerged. Other routine maintenance repairs were also carried out during this call. The Complete renewal on Cement line and X-ray carried out on all welded joints.

CDL project team led by Ship Manager Purnaka Jayasinghe successfully carried out the complex repairs meeting stringent requirements of the owners and the classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

The owner representatives K. Jayarajan - Rig Manager, K. Radakrishnan -AGM- Maintenance and Denise Perkins. - Chief Maintenance Engineer.

The offshore rig Aban -II was towed to her next drilling location in East Coast of India ( Karkinada) soon after completion of repairs and testing.

CDL have mustered INTERNAL resources as well as local specialists to tackle this project successfully; the towing operation of the rig was handled by of Sri Lanka Shipping Ltd.

Owned Tug Mahanuwara while the diving assistance and preliminary underwater work is professionally tackled by Master Divers Pte Ltd., local agents for the rig Asha Agencies Ltd. Playing a coordinating role in this operation.

CDL also commemorated 30 years of service to the nation and the international shipping community in 2004 August.
