The President of the Nautical Institute (NI) headquartered in the United Kingdom, Dr. Philip Anderson, D.Prof., BA (Hons), FNI, Master Mariner will arrive in Colombo today. The Nautical Institute is a non-profit-making professional body for qualified mariners and others who satisfy the council of the NI that their association will promote the general advancement or application of nautical science. NI promotes high standards of knowledge, qualifications and competence amongst those in control of sea-going craft, including non-displacement craft, both ashore and afloat. Dr. Anderson was invited to visit the island by Vice Admiral Daya Sandagiri Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Navy who is the Chairman of the Nautical Institute, Sri Lanka Branch. To coincide with his visit the Sri Lanka Branch will launch 2004-2005 program, including inaugural academic sessions where he will speak on 'The nautical institutes role in maritime issues'tomorrow. |
