Speed Water System awarded SLS 894 classification Speed Water System (Pvt) Ltd became the 14th company to be awarded Sri Lanka Standards 894 classification. Though there are over 300 companies involved in bottling table water only 14 companies have been awarded the SLS certification. "We want to give our customers the best product and this was the reason we applied for this certification, said Managing Director, Speed Water System (Pvt) Ltd., Nishantha Delgoda. He said they commenced operations with an investment of Rs. 5 million. "This is a significant day for Speed Water Systems. SLS Quality Certification was the first thing in my mind, when I thought about a bottled water plant. We started this plant, thinking we could achieve this within three months. With the guidance of very committed SLS staff, we achieved our expectations - the quality standard within one year," he said. "We were initially involved in the production of garment accessories in China, and out of many varied areas I selected bottled water as we had the strong backing of international connections," he said. "It was Speed Water Systems who first came up with an idea of giving free dispensers and coolers to the consumers. Today, Speed water is consumed in many areas in Sri Lanka, which includes Anuradhapura, Puttalam and Batticaloa, he said. "With our international backing and support of many experts and business consultants in China, Hong Kong and Singapore we intend to put out many new products such as oxygenated, flavoured bottled water and many novel packing methods of water, while maintaining the highest standards by this Institute, for our current products," he said. Speed Water Systems (Pvt) Ltd. was established in March 2003 under the vision of Nishantha Delgoda, the Managing Director, who has gained business experience in Hong Kong, China, Bangladesh, Singapore and India. The company is a sister company of Sritrims International Ltd., pioneers in garment accessories in Sri Lanka having offices in Hong Kong, China, Bangladesh, India, Singapore and Kenya. The company was established to obtain the SLS certificate in a very short time and it was achieved within one year. This company is the fastest to obtain the SLS certificate in the water market and the first for PET bottled water and home/office use dispenser bottled water. The company's production plant is in Galagedara, Padukka and the head office is in Colombo 6. The company functions with the support of a well-trained staff of around 50. The high tech plant imported from France with state-of-the-art French 'Aquarin' purification system, which is rare in Sri Lanka, gives added value to the products. The company produces disposable PET bottles in 500 ml, 750 ml, 1,000 ml, 1,500 ml and 5 l and home/office use bottles of 19 l. The company also imports and supplies the units of free standing model and bench top model to its customers at very concessionary rates. Speed Water Systems have captured big customers in the hotel sector, companies and many reputed garment factories and Chinese restaurants in Sri Lanka. It also handles all-island delivery in the company's own lorries and threewheelers for quick and urgent deliveries with the support of agents in Anuradhapura, Batticaloa, Vavuniya and Galle. "The company's goal is to make bottled water more affordable to each and every citizen in Sri Lanka," he said. |
