Mega sports event to project country's image in France

By Sudarshana Perera

Over 225 French female tourists will arrive in Sri Lanka soon for a mega sports event "Raid Vittel Amasones 2004" that would help project the country's image in France. "Vittel", the much cherished annual event in the French calendar will be held from October 7 to 15 and the race would be kicked off from Negombo.

Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the French Trade Commission in Sri Lanka, Hubert Colaris told the Daily News that Vittel, the main sponsor of the event has chosen Sri Lanka as the venue of the mega event and it would help project Sri Lanka's image as an attractive and diverse tourist destination in France and in other countries.

Colaris said that the adventure race would be telecast live in France while the event will be given full coverage in the electronic and print media in France.

They have chosen Sri Lanka after extensive research and review and it would boost Sri Lanka's tourism industry world-wide.

Tourists will start their adventure race from Negombo and would cover Kandalama, Kandy and other tourists attractions in the hill capital. The event is organised by Vittel, a prominent water bottling company in France in collaboration with the Tourist Board in Sri Lanka.

Sources in France describing the uniqueness of the event said that the Vittel Amazon Raid 2004 is headed for a land rich with culture and authenticity, a land placed under the sign of Buddha - Sri Lanka.

The Raid brings out the finest human qualities through the practice of sport and travel. The physical accessibility of the different trials enables all female adventurers to share an experience which is full of vitality and rich in discovery - discovery of oneself, of others, of an exotic environment and also a sensation which is both physical and emotional ", the sources said.
