Travel Mart 2004 a boon to Lankan, Indian tour operators by Ramani Kangaraarachchi Travel Mart 2004 is a great opportunity for Sri Lankan and Indian tour operators and other related industrialists specially with increased flight connectivity. We have already met a number of international buyers from Germany, Singapore, Maldives, Nepal, France and Sri Lanka, said Commissioner of Tourism, Government of Karnataka, Mahendra Jain. He said that he came to know about this exhibition from Minister of Industries, Tourism and Investment Promotion Anura Bandaranayake recently when he met tour operators in Banglore to invite them for this exhibition. Although small the exhibition is very well organised. It would have been better if it was open to the public on the last days instead of the first two days, he said. Another advantage was that we were able to tie up with local industrialists at the exhibition for the benefit of both parties. We will be inviting interested parties and the media for a familiarisation program to take the message to India and a Road Show will be organised in Sri Lanka to provide an opportunity for Sri Lankans to learn about Karnataka. The exhibition which opened on October 2 at the BMICH had 80 stalls including Air Lines, Hotels, Tour Operators and Ayurvedic tours from Pakistan, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Sri Lanka. He said that Karnataka at 949 meters above sea level on the Decan Plateau has a lot to offer visitors. A rich cultural heritage, historic monuments, handicrafts, antiques and Silk stores, wild life Safari, amusement parks, golf courses, resorts, and weekend gateways on the outskirts of the city. |
