Rs. 160 m water project set up in Dambulla by Irangika Range The Ministry of Urban Development and Water Supply has set up the Rangiri Dambulu drinking water project in Dambulla, in collaboration with the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government as part of their community development project. The investment for the project is around Rs.160 million and it has been received subsequent to a grant from the World Bank. The project comprises three drinking water projects, Ratmalkatuwa, Athuparayaya and Ranpokunagama in the Dambulla Pradeshiya Sabha area. This was the second public water supply and health care project set up under the guidance of the Rural Water Supply and Health Care Unit of the Urban Development and Water Supply Ministry. The project's main aim is to promote people's livelihood in Dambulla by providing drinking water and health care facilities. The Central Province's Rural Water Supply and Health Care Unit has selected 594 of Grama Niladhari Divisions to implement the drinking water projects in five stages in the Central Province. Under the first stage of the project, various development projects such as building the Gami Diyawara wells program would be undertaken. The Provincial Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas would continue to implement these drinking water projects with public support for planing, managing and developing. Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon and the Urban Development and Water Supply Minister Dinesh Gunawardena commissioned this project recently. The Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister said that this would provide a good supply of drinking water to the residents of Dambulla who face severe hardships due to the lack of a proper supply of water. The Minister will next look at providing electricity for the use of the villagers, as that will offer considerable development in the area. Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said this is a special project because villagers have joined to build the project. The government has decided to give priority for rural development and similar projects would be launched in the future. He appealed to people in Dambulla to conserve water by using it carefully. |
