Kandy enters final in style

Kandy Sports Corr.

Defending Clifford Cup Champions stormed into the final of the Caltex Clifford Cup knockout rugby tournament by bombing the Sri Lanka Army by 51 points (3 goals, 6 tries) to nil in the semi final played at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium in Kandy yesterday. At lemons Kandy led 27-0.

Kandy opened scoring early in the first half through their Fijian full Sirelli Driu who worked his way to score to score for right Amjad Buksh failed to add the extra points. Kandy led 17-0.

Kandy SC continued to plough through Army's defence in the second half too though by that time match had lost all interest as the Soldiers fate was beyond redemption.

Kandy scored four more tries in the second half through prop Jeewo Galgamuwa (1), Centre Chamara Withanage (1) and replacement flanker Perceli Nasawe (2). Full back Walaii Faatawa goalled two of the tries. The only chance the Army got to scoring was a penalty which was fluffed by T. A. Silva in the closing stages of the game.
