Indian PM to discuss "all issues" with Musharraf in New York New Delhi, Tuesday (PTI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will discuss "all issues" between India and Pakistan when he meets President Pervez Musharraf later this month in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session. Confirming the Singh-Musharraf meeting, External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh told reporters after his talks with Pakistani counterpart Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri that "all issues will be discussed" by the two leaders. Singh, who leaves on September 19 for the UN session, will have a stopover in London where he will meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair. The Prime Minister will have a breakfast meeting with US President George W Bush on September 21 and is likely to meet the Pakistan President the next day. Singh will deliver his address to the UNGA on September 23. He is also expected to have a separate meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Meanwhile Noting that both India and Pakistan were committed to continuing the dialogue process, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the two countries needed to cast off the "burden of history" and "write a new chapter". The importance of "full implementation" of the January 6 commitment of President Pervez Musharraf of not allowing any territory of Pakistan for use by terrorists was also emphasised by Singh when Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri called on him here. The Prime Minister affirmed government's commitment to progress on the bilateral dialogue. Noting that problems are complex, he said "progress may be possible only step-by-step." There is "need for the two countries to cast off the burden of history and write a new chapter," Singh said. The Prime Minister said his government would like to encourage people-to-people contacts between India and Pakistan, including the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "In this regard, modalities can easily be worked out," he said. |
