by Chris Dhambarage

Chilaw Marians Sports Club hit a world record score of 227 for 6 as they lifted the first ever Twenty 20 Premier limited overs cricket title when they defeated Colts CC by 103 runs in the final played under lights at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

The Chilaw Marians SC's total in fact beat the previous highest score of 221 runs made by Sussex against Yorkshire in the very first Twenty 20 cricket match played in England. Chilaw Marians SC virtually sealed the game in their favour with a brilliant batting performance from the beginning.

Colts CC never looked like reaching their target after losing both openers Shantha Kalawitigoda and Romesh Kaluwitharana in successive deliveries. They were completely out of the contest after having lost half of their side for just 54 runs by the fifth over of the innings. They were eventually dismissed for 124 runs in 12.5 overs.
