A Formula battle between father and daughter by Bernard Perera The speed 2004 race meet organised by Motor Racing Association in collaboration with Asian Motor Racing Club flags off tomorrow at Pannala International race circuit. The meet which is organised with a new format by introducing international rules to guide the drivers to a new era which will give them the opportunity to gain knowledge about the international competition. The organisers have brought in new equipment for weighing and timing. These will be conducted by specialists team flown from India said an official of the organising committee. Already over 100 entries have poured in with all leading drivers competing. A keen tussle can be expected in the super car event with Dinesh Deheragoda, Dan Dissanayake and Dinesh Jayawardena driving in this event. Meanwhile in other classes too all leading drivers Rizvi Farouk, K. Parameshwaran, Hafiz Cader, Saman Attanayake, Riya Farouk, International competitor Dilantha Malagamuwa, Sheran Fernando, Zakie Ismail and Dinesh Senanayake are billed to battle for supremacy. For the first time the spectators will get the opportunity of witnessing two women drivers competing here along with their male counterpart. S. A. Lakshika will drive a Nissan March, while Shehara de Silva the first lady driver on local circuit is to compete in the Formula Event in addition to Group N Cars 10-14 kg. Shehara will be pitted against Formula Ford veteran who happens to be her father. Lankan motor racing fans will definitely witness a world record being set when a father and daughter enter the track on this day to thrill the crowds. All in all it will definitely be a day filled with spills and thrills. |
