Lankan women ready to pose a threat today

by Chris Dhambarage

The Sri Lanka women's cricket team will be hoping to produce an improved performance when they take on the visiting Australian women's cricket team in the second one day international at the R. Premadasa Stadium today.

The Australians cruised to an easy nine wicket victory in the first one day international after dismissing the home side for 102 runs at the same venue just two days ago.

Sri Lanka are fielding a new look side having made a couple of changes to their squad following the unsuccessful home series against India. The new players are really feeling the pressure when they are up against a top side and are keen to bounce back with a better display.

The Lankans are likely to make a couple of changes to their side but the batting line up will need a tremendous improvement as they are certain to be tested once again by the more experienced Australian fast bowlers.

In the first one day international Sri Lanka managed to bat only 30 overs and this is one area they will be really keen to improve on.

In contrast the Australian team will be pleased with their performance having struck early form in this tour which is being held in preparation for the World Cup to be staged in South Africa next year. They are already one up in the four match series and will be looking for a repeat performance in the second match too.

The strength has been their bowling department and they justified it by bundling out the Sri Lankan team for just one hundred runs in the first one day international. Their fast bowler Julie Hunter had a superb game capturing a five wicket haul while opener Julie Worner scored an unbeaten half century to complete a successful opening match.
